Choose the town's population wisely
You want to make sure you are going to be happy with the size of the town. If you have always lived in large towns, then you should spend time in a small town before deciding you will be good living in one. On the other hand, if you are from a small town, you should spend some time in a large town before moving to one.
Smaller towns often lack some of the things those from larger towns have. You may have to travel for certain services you are used to going right down the street for, such as doctors, dentists, optometrists and/or veterinarian services. Also, these small towns generally tend to close up much earlier than in large cities where many things can often stay open all night, such as grocery stores and fast food places.
Larger cities can have a lot of traffic, especially at rush hour when most people are on their way home from work. There tend to be longer lines in just about all different types of stores, and even at places where you take care of other things, like the department of motor vehicles, the utility companies and anywhere else.
Make sure you are going to be able to secure a job
If you are moving to a very large city, then you may not have to be as concerned with this aspect. However, you do want to make sure you have plenty of savings to last you until you find a job and get paid if you aren't going to be securing a job before moving (which would be advisable to do).
If you are moving to a smaller town then you should really make sure you have a job first. You may be surprised at just how hard it can be to get a job in a town with a very small population of people. If you work from home, then this obviously won't be a problem for you.

When you plan on moving to a different area you can almost count on the fact that the cost of living is going to be different. Therefore, you want to make sure you are well aware of what you are going to end up paying for the things you need, such as groceries, utilities and other services.
